We used to stretch semi tractors fairly regularly where I used to work. There was more to it than just welding frames together though. And those frames are straight so it is easy to put more rail inside of the original.
Farm tractors are welded more than they should be, they are mostly cast iron and cast cast steel which makes it much more complicated to do well. Frame rails are a wear item and are available new even going back into 1960's models, they just bolt on.
