Measure 4 times then cut it anyway
Just bought a 1986 B200 with 215k on it. Runs ok shifts ok . Normal wear and tear I suppose. No body damage or rust . Needs TLC as they say.
Just want to know about the engine. I know its a Ford 2l like out of a Pinto or early truck. Just need to know if its worth a crap or do look to replace it. I amgoing to use the truck as an A to B hauler nothing fancy. I do want to paint it and put new interior in it wheels and tires but no turbo or anything like that.
Is the engine worth its weight ?

Is it safe to think that ranger parts will fit the Mazda as well since they are a Ranger or do we have a European Ranger ?

The early Mazda's up until 1994 had either Mitsubishi or Mazda engines in them. There are no interchangeable engine parts like the 1994- B series trucks.

I haven't priced any parts for these in a very long time. Just looking at RockAuto. Looks like there are still a lot of things still avalible.

Here are the Mazda and Ranger Engines from 1986 to show the difference

Does anybody have any idea about the reliability of the B2000 engine ?

The Mazda trucks through 93 have nothing in common with 83 and up Rangers. Not a thing, nothing except they are trucks!! Maybe the early Courier's are similar.

Go here http://www.mazdatrucking.com/forum/index.php and signup. This site is dedicated the those trucks. There is probably more combined knowledge about them there than anywhere on the net. These trucks have a sort of cult following that continues to grow. And these guys have dozens (if not hundreds) of these trucks. From beaters to fully restored to show.

Oh, and the B2000 is a very good engine. The stock carb system is very complex and the vacuum system is a real goat-rope so a lot of them have aftermarket Weber carbs. Other than that the engine is a 250/300 K engine.

If it runs well now it is worth it. Drive it until it breaks, then worry about it.
