Yes i know this HAS been talked about before. i recently bought a pair of tan boots from big 5 there not steel toe and they are tall. havent had any problems with them. in fact i really like the design. they even have a zipper on the side which was a huge selling point.

I work on my feet alot and do alot of foot travel. only owned them for 2 months and the tread is almost a raccing slick. any body know of anything tht lasts longer or wht to look for? Its irritating buying 80-150$ boots every other month and they all wear fast. even tho i dot drag my feet

Redwing is one of the best boots I've ever had.

Currently I've got a set of Georgia Boots (from a RedWing store), the tread is about to fall off of them, they are YEARS old. I'm thinking about sending them back in for new tread, and I think they can re-sole them all together. Stop by your local Red Wing shoes store and you won't be disappointed.

Did I mention made in the USA?

I love my Justins, $130-$145 lasts about 2 yrs. Normally I buy just the regular work boots, but this last fall I bought the gortex lined ones. They actually breathed very well and weren't hot in 80 degree weather, and have been amazing so far this winter.

Another vote for Redwings. When they wear out, send them back in and they can make them like new, but still broken in. Plus they are made in the US (Justins are too).

Redwings! I work along the rail roads and those stones will tear boots up. the Redwings are the best by far that i have ever owned. they last me about 2 to 3 years.

The last time I went to the shoe store, Redwings were not (?) made here, so the salesman sold me a pair of Chippewas (no-steel tops). I've had them over a year & still intact.
Try to buy your comfortable 'boondockers' with the vibram soles-

I've been wearing tactical 511's. I get about two years. The soles do wear out quick though. I buy them because they are comfortable. If you like comfortable shoes then it's these or danners. Redwings stain your socks red. Can't stand them.

I will give half a vote for red-wings. Some models/parts are NOT USA made, but some are.

My local dealer gives me EXCELLENT customer service, good prices, and is right around the corner in town. That's luck of the draw, though.

Currently wearing red-wings. I have a 8" steel toe boot, american, and the sole is almost smooth, but I've the pair for 2 full years now and wear them every other day. My other pair is a 6" steel toe, american that I've had since about august. They are wearing well.

One time I bought a pair of chinese red-wings from my dealer. They were the only boots that fit at the time. He had to take them back in 3 months under warranty. The second pair (free of charge), came back in 3 months for the opposite seam splitting out (all whilst the american made ones were eating the punishment like candy). When the chinese ones came back the second time, he refused to give me another pair and said he will A) let me walk out of the store empty handed, or B) have the american made ones on my feet. So I picked out the 6" ones, where we went through about 10 pairs to properly fit them. He charged me the price difference between the chinese and american, so they only cost me about $45.

At first the heel structure didn't want to break in, so he worked them with his hands and told me to do so. Haven't had a problem since. Friday, I went in expecting to pay for some laces (since I burn laces, being a welder). Got 2 sets of laces for each of my boots free of charge.

Red-wing might not have the exact boot you're looking for, with the height, features, etc, but they are a good boot as long as you only buy the American made ones. For me, when it comes down to it, price isn't much of an object unless it's absurd. The comfort and safety of my feet is worth the price, and I hope you guys feel the same.

Why don't you buy cheap brake lines? Why not buy crappy oil and spark plugs? Because it'll give you problems...

For what it's worth I bought a pair of doc martens industrial line and they are holding up remarkably well and comfortable to boot (no pun intended). They are pull ons and cost about 125 to 150. Steel toe of course. Use them everyday all day and no complaints here. Well only one really when new the right foot was a bit tighter then the left, but once broken in fits fine :thumbup:

If you want the sole to last, buy something with the Vibram sole.
Firefighting I would gt 3-4 years out of my West Coast boots, sent back for a rebuild, 3-4 more years. New pair, same deal. But for $300 pair they had better last and are made in the usa.

It really depends on the boots you get. I use the Big5 SideZip2 by Response Gear, a Big5 brand, and love them. They are well over a year old and the tread is literally like new, I use them for everything from hiking and working to just wearing around town. I like them most though for the ankle support they provide as I have yet to come close to rolling an ankle which always happens with lower cut boots. My dad just picked up a pair that is lower cut since he needed new boots and they were under $50. Remember comfort and safety first, price second.

I have had Justin's, they were terribly uncomfortable for me. My feet were killing me every morning when I got out of bed, basically no arch support at all. Had all the traction of skis in snow. I love their cowboy boots though, odd my old school leather soled Justin cowboy boots were more comfortable than their workboots.

I tried on a set of Redwings, the arch support was in a very goofy place. I could barely walk with them.

I like my Wolverines, I get a little over a year out of them before they are almost too ugly to look at and maybe another 6 months before the tread gives out. Very comfortable and decent priced.

I wear my boots a lot, pretty much all day every day when I am not otherwise stuck in the house.
