Woody's SAS Build

Picked up the axle, needs some work but the gears and locker look great. Ordered a new diff cover as this one was the ugliest self made one ever.

So picked up new ball joints and carrier bushings, might as well while its out and torn apart.

Also my diff cover showed up today, this thing is beefy!

Cut off all the useless crap from the previous owner...

His "truss" was super useful!

Swapped the carrier bearings today and cleaned and painted the axle.

But found an issue install the diff cover, one of the bolt holes is stripped...so I need to install a helicoil or get it fixed somehow.

Looking good Jeff! Let's see some more pics of the truck out camping and wheeling!

When are you getting the rest of the SAS stuff?

Soon, thinking in a month or so. Working the second job that I do every year, so wont have time until the end of the year. I am still in the collecting stage.

looks good dude, I had missed this somehow. I did a D30 swap on my b2. it's still in the tinkering phase. lots of pics in my build thread

Thanks man.

I had totally forgotten you started that around the time I sold my bronco. Ill have to check it out!

Grabbed some shafts from pick n pull half off sale.

Found a nice disk brake 8.8 but that thing was giving me major crap while pulling it so I walked away

Ok so I have the front planned out as far as lift goes. Running 5.5" rubicon express Cherokee coils.

But I still am undecided on the rear. If I use shackles and exploer or Chevy leafs I'll still need to run the factory block to get the height I want... I really don't want to run a block.

That leaves me with what? Lift springs? If so what are some good ones?

You can get a "add a leaf" I used a 2" lift aal under my truck for several years. They were like 200 I think brand new.

Could also lower your mounting points on the frame, as in drop your shackle hanger so the top two holes on the hanger use the bottom two holes on the frame, and take some angle and bolt it to the frame and drill holes for the bottom two, should net you a couple inches of lift. Or if you want to get real crazy, inboard your leaves, as in mount them under the frame. Gives you lift, and more flex because the tires have more leverage.

I like the idea of moving them inboard. That would net you several inches more but it would increase body roll. Also it would be a good idea to box the frame at each hanger.

Moving the springs inboard is not a bad idea, but how much would it effect the daily drivability as well as towing with the truck?
