Wood gas

during WW2 in occupied countries these were quite popular.

Infact some people had them running here because it saved their gasoline rations.

Coal can also be made to work, though not as well.

what you are running the internal combustion engine on is Methane methanol
and Carbon Monoxide (which is flammible) from the destruuctive distillation of
wood in a closed cell.

It may not be the future because it's so 1940's

I've been tinkering with woodgas for awhile. Much of the stuff I work on is from the days when this was used more (It's also known as producer gas).

Biggest problem is getting it to pass for emissions. With the rise in fuel prices, It is something that I am working on. I'm trying to get the filtration figured out better and figure a way to control the mixture with a computer, because that is going to be the only hope of passing an echeck. As to people telling me how I will be in violation of federal law... The only way to develop technology is to keep working with it.

If you do mess with it, be careful... You are making CO...I've almost killed myself working with this stuff before. I now have 2 gas detectors.
