Have a 98 ranger 3.0 4x4. Replaced clutch safety switch, key tumbler and new ignition switch and still will not turn over, all lights work and battery is charged. I have power to the starter relay.could the starter be bad. It will start if you pop the clutch on a hill.Any one have any Ideas, Thanks.

Are you getting power to the starter if so the starter is suspect. Does the solenoid click?
Is the battery fully charged? Why did you change the ignition switch?

Take the starter out. Get out some jumper cables.

Hook the black one to battery ground and one of the bolt ears on the starter.

Hook the red one to the big post that the wire was on.

Then take a smaller wire and hit it from the battery + to the little terminal.

If your starter doesn't kick out and run go buy a new one.

battery is charged, new ignition switch, throwing parts at the problem. I will check to see if I'm getting power to the starter. Thanks.

Well put in a new starter, still no start. I have power to the starter relay but haven't checked it leaving the relay, will check that next other than that I must have a short somewhere.

Solenoid possibly, if you are getting power to the relay, but no power to the starter your solenoid is probably bad, be happy yours went bad in that position and not stuck in the engaged position destroying my starter plus having the bad solenoid LOL.

well the ranger started last night. The wiring harness that plugs in the clutch safety switch wasn't plugged in all the way, So far so good, I'll give it a few days and see if it keeps on working.

FYI.......wildbill solved his problem.....but I had a relay that was getting 12V to it.....but it was NOT putting out 12V to the solenoid...took me a while to figure out that my solenoid & starter were still good....
