Wont start!......Sometimes!

testing relay using test port (fuel Pressure)

I read some where that the connector on the smaller end of the test plug with key on you can test for fuel pressure. ie test the fuel pump running

OK everyone, you're going to love this one.

I have inherited my wifes niece. She has since taken over the POS Ranger. She is a bit taller so she has to move the seat back. Presto! It now starts. WTF??

Does this make any sense to anybody? The only thing I can figure is that when the seat is moved, a ground somewhere gets moved and that is the problem.

I have no idea but it has been working in general. Every now and then it takes a bit for the pump to cycle but in general itis good.

Any ideas?????

Sorry, man. I can't think of anything . . . except . . . . maybe the truck simply likes your niece, better than you.

Seriously, though, hopefully everything will stay good, and thanks for the update. :icon_thumby:

I think you're probably right! She's better looking than me......

Interesting development.

Does the 96 have a large square connector directly under the driver seat? If so, THAT connector (accessed from underneath the truck) has been known to give problems from water intrusion and corrosion.

Take that thing apart (one bolt), clean its contacts (even if you simply connect/disconnect repeatedly) and apply some dielectric grease.

And good for you, for taking in your niece (for whatever reason) and providing her with transportation.
