Well I dont have any more pictures yet. Since the first drive its moved once more but that was a short trip from parking space to garage/barn to do some more welding. I have since installed my bw 1350 manual, only thing that needs done is to clean up threads on transmission so that the tiny bolt will go in and wire it so that my lights will work. Changed the oil that had about 20 miles on it from a year and a half ago. Talk about nasty. Installed my gangster euro lights that I got off ebay for $25. Changed the wiring harness from one of my junk beds onto my new bed. The previous owner of the bed had wired a fuse in line with the driver side brake light. Talk about masking the problem instead of fixing it! I will be working on it this weekend and hope to get some pics of the manual t-case, steering, and whatever else I can accomplish.
Question for those who have gone from electric to manual t-case. The manual t-case uses 2 wires for the lights. My electric has I think 8 on the connector. Anyone know which color wires I cut on the elctric to mate to the manual to get it to work? And the wires from the manual t-case are both blue so after I figure out hi and low on the electric I guess I will use trial and error to figure out which is which.
Well I was hooking my shifter linkage up to my transmission and broke the housing on the trans. There was dirt back in the hole and the pressure from the bolt going in caused it to break off. Transmission isnt leaking or anything. It completely funtional except I wont be able to hook up a shifter linkage to it. I guess I will now be looking for a new tranny. I really loved that tranny too!
I got a question if anybody knows. Does the m5od have to be from a 4.0 or can it be outa any size engine. I read that the m5od came in all manual shift from 88-2000. I remeber plum crazy talkin about using gears from a 4 cyl to give it a lower gear ratio.
1.Could I possibly just get a manual tranny from a 4 cyl and swap the bell housing from my trans I have now onto this?
Alright. I was just lookin at pics of the m5od. It looks like I can just replace the "tail housing". Dont know if its really called the tailhousing on a 4wd trans but Im gonna check it out sometime this week and see.
You can take the internals out of the 4cyl trans and put it in a 4.0 casing. Make sure you have the correct output shaft for the extension housing/transfer case
Alright got some stuff done. I swear someday this truck will be used for something beside a lawn ornament. That piece I broke on my tranny, I replaced it. While I was pulling off the new one it just so happened to be mated to a manual 1354. So I ditched the 1350 and installed the 1354. And the drive shaft from the 1354 fits up to my axle without rubbing the crossmember. Heres some pics.
the f-up that cost me
Oh and the manual 1354, the tranny part, the shifter, and front drive shaft only cost $75.
Yeah, hi steer is in the future. When you crank on it when its not moving it puts a lot of stress on the tie rod. I plan on replacing the knuckles and the hubs and rotors. I have a 9 inch for the rear with 5.13s and gonna change the front out with the same bolt pattern. Gonna grab a few passenger side chevy knuckles from the yard this spring and let my buddy who is a machinest play with them and see if he cant make me somethin. Need to button a few things up so I can at least drive it to work soon. Theres an old guy at work with a 02 toyota with a 6inch suspension and 3 inch body lift on 38 inch dc all terrains that thinks hes got the biggest baddest truck around. Need to rub it in his face. Been tellin him Im gonna park beside him so I can jump in his bed to make it less of fall out of the cab.
Put shorter u-bolts on front, made up a short pipe with tip i had layin around and pics of the 8 inch lift skyjacker shocks. Pull front diff and its got like 2.92s up front. If someone has some thick 5.13s for a dana 44 let me know, or regular 5.13s and a 3.92 up carrier they wanna sell me.
Alright kinda given myself a bump here. Final gonna have a garage to put her in.
QUESTION: Will be putting my 9 inch rear off a 79 Bronco on it soon. How do I either modify the drive shaft to adapt to the nine inch, or is there a drive shaft that I can swap in?
