I'm going to buy one of those books to help with the swap, but I thought I'd ask this. What did some of you guys do about all the wiring on your conversions? Did you remove the computer and harness completely? Did you just tie it off and tuck it somewhere? Mine is an EFI 2.9 V6 truck, so there's injection wiring and such. I'd like to keep the wiring to the lights, wipers and power to the Mallory distributor. I don't think the truck will see much street duty, but if I do I'd like most of the stuff to work. Maybe I'll just run a custom setup with switches on a contol panel if I have to.

Are you going EFI or carb? Really either way you will be removing a good bit of wiring. If you go with a carb you can remove the computer and all the wires that go into the computer harness. If you use fuel injection you will have to remove most all the V6 engine wiring but there is some stuff you can reuse. The engine harness is separate from the chassis harness so your wipers and such will remain as if the truck was stock.

like he said, you casn remove the harness starting at the PCM to the engine, to the plugs on the DS.

the rest of the harness is for the headlights, whatnot, the alternator is even still usable without the engine harness.

if your V8 is from a truck or NON HO, speed density setup, i been looking at the wiring, and im pretty sure you could maybe extend the wiring to go to the TPS, Distributor,Etc., and it would work, the 2.9 uses bank firing and the non ho speed density does to, so something to keep in mind.

all you would need to do is unhook the boo, and use the v8 computer, add 2 injectors, and i think it may work, but i may be wrong, something im going to try to d when this summer when i begin work again, because my swap is already odd-ball with the 91 f150 intake

It will be definately a carb setup. I was going to slip in a 351W, but it looks like headers will be a huge problem. I might just go to a 302 setup, and maybe stroke it. We'll see when I start on it this Spring.

You won't need a wiring book for that, it's easy as pie. Get a service manual for your Ranger so you know what wires perform what function and go with a duraspark if you are on a budget or a MSD if you have some more coin. They are rather easy to get hooked up.
