Hey guys, i'm having a prob, i've got an old 302 using a points style distributor and there is one wire coming out of it, i've seen on a lot of different wiring diagrams that have it going to the negtive side of the coil, is that right? i am also using one of thoes cheapo accel round coils and i have the positive side going basically straight to power, i now realize that would keep the engine alive till it runs outta fuel, so where is a good place to wire it into where it would only have power when the engine is running? would the wire going to the starter solenoid on the fender from the key be a good place or would it just be easier to wire in a switch?

one last question, on my holley carb with the elecrtic choke, i wired that straight to power and the choke didn't move, it stayed wide open, does that mean it's bad? and where would a good place to wire it into be where it only gets power when its supposed to?

thanks,
Jon

when you go to wire up the coil, wire the positive to a hot when the key is on AND cranking. make sure it is a full 12 volts. the negative side would go to the distributer. and do not wire the positive side of the coil to a constant power, you will burn out the coil doing this.

the choke, same deal, wire that to a hot when the key is one. and make sure it has a clean ground. when you turn the key on and pump the gas, the choke will close. then when the engine is running, and you kick the idle down,. the choke will open.

Does the Coil need a resistor in line with the power ?

so iv got most of what im trying to wire wired up, for the choke, when i have power to it it doesent snap closed, the engine isnt running, but it seems as if the electric choke isnt doing anything, its got a good ground on the carb, i checked that with a test light, any ideas why the choke doesnt seem to be working?

Flip the throttle...
