What resources do you guys use for your wiring diagrams? I'm looking for the most detailed ones i can find. (which is definately NOT chilton's or haynes). I'm about to start a lot of mods to the electrical system including gutting the dash and putting in all aftermkt gauges, changing most of the interior controls and lights over to toggle switches, adding a second pwr distribution box for extra lights, cb, etc. And on top of that I'm swapping in a 4.0 and i'll probably have to do some splicing since I have an 88.

I'm looking for the diagrams for an 88 2.9L 5spd 4x4, and a 93 Navajo 5spd 4.0 4x4.
I was thinking of ordering them from the dealership (or at least finding the same ones the dealership has, but elsewhere for cheaper), or if any outside sources make good ones.
I found www.wiring-diagram.com, has anybody used theirs? $12 bucks sounds good, but I can't tell by their example if theirs are detailed enough and they have no satisfaction guarantee so I'm not going to buy theirs unless someone recommends it.

I specialize in auto wiring, and if I were going to attempt what you want to do, I would use aftermarket wiring. The only OE wiring harness I would possibly use would be the sensor/computer harness for the engine. I say possibly is because you may be able to obtain an aftermarket harness to sub for the stock harness also. I haven't gone this route yet, but this would make a much cleaner installation. You would only need the diagram for the 4.0 computer hook-up in this case.

Trying to cobble up stock harnesses to switches, aftermarket gauges, etc., winds up with a mess.

This company has several styles of harnesses, and a generic harness is less than $200 bucks. Give them a call, and see what they suggest for the computer.

hmm... thats an option. I'll have to think about that a little, but in any case, I'm going to do the engine swap first before i start doing a ton of electrical modifications.
so where is a good place to get the diagrams i need for the swap?
I have a donor vehicle now, but it had the harness taken out already, so I'm attempting to put it back in so i can get an idea for what everything on the harness does and where it goes. I have a couple of plugs that the wires got pulled out of the plug and I'm not sure of the pin configuration on a couple of them, and I also seem to have 1 extra plug that apprently has no home, so I'd like to figure out where that goes.

I have done this swap but both are auto trans ,I used alldata diagrams there ok. I can answer just about any question that you might have . send me a pm

There are a series of CDs with detailed wiring diagrams but don't know if they go back to 1988. I have the CD for 93/94. It would be nice if I could find a link to download the original iso file because there is a corruption on my CD that prevents access to certain chapters. The original file is 93_94t11.iso.

Autozone has some wiring diagrams for the 88 but it might not be to the detail you need:

You can get the Ford diagrams at helminc.com. I've bought whatever Ford Service literature I could not find on Ebay through them. I don not do wiring without the real factory diagrams because there can be weird changes that occur from year to year--or between bodies. For instance, the coolant gauge wire in my Ranger was the rear window heater or something strange.

Cool. I'll check them out for the 88 manual. I found the 93 navajo factory diagrams yesterday for 8 bucks on ebay. So i should be getting that in the next couple of days. I couldnt find an EVTM for the 88 though.
