my O2 sensor might have been a bit wonky. now it's a bit dead.
the connector must have been against the exhaust pipe for a while because it was partially melted. when i pulled on the wires, they came out of the connector. so i used pliers and pulled the connector apart. the harness end broke where it was melted.
i found a connector in the piles of 'everything that was screwed, bolted, or plugged into' the several parts trucks that have graced my yard
i probably could get the wires out of the harness end with pliers and screw drivers but would do more damage than good.
i know there is a tool specifically for removing and repairing wiring connectors.
what's it called and who sells it?

AFAIK each brand connector uses a different disconnect tool. I bought a multi-tool from Princess Auto (Canadian Harbor Freight). Comes in a pack with 2 tools and about 8 different ends on each tool. Its cheap but works so far.

Ummmm…. Perfect

Is this the connector you need?? If so, I believe it is still available, via this WPT number!

I just have a assorted pile of bent paper clips and welding wire for connector tools...

I like a 45* pick.

biggest problem with this is room to work. going to try fishing the pigtail up to the top of the motor to see if there will be room to get at it. i don't want to get a pin in the wrong spot.
looking at the o'reilly website, they mention 4 wire sensors. the dead one has 3 wires. don't know yet what's on the harness end but the doner has 4 going into it (think this harness came out of a 91. definitely a series 2 anyway. was just a cab, no motor etc)

Uncle Dump.

Sold.

Uncle Hump is way too... Well. Incest porn is the new #1 variety of porn. Let's not bring that sorcery in here.

well. just when i thought it couldn't get worse.....
the O2 sensor just slides out of the connector on the harness, which is half missing due to being partly melted
can't get enough room to work on the plastic connector from either under the truck or under the hood.
might be able to get at it from the wheel well if i remove the plastic inner wheel well.
so now the question is;
can i remove the inner from under the truck without having to pull all sorts of stuff in the engine compartment?

On the driver's side the air box would need to come out.

On the driver's side just the coil is on there, and it can just get unplugged.

On either side I think there are a handful of wire harness retainers pinned in to the fender aprons.

well, the inner fender came off rather easily.
the you-tube instruction video for the Lisle tool mentioned moving a blue part of the connector until it clicked. the connector i was working on is black with a red piece in the middle. turns out the red piece is a wedge which came out easy with a pair of needle-nose pliers. then the pins came right out
piece of cake.
didn't fix the problem but piece of cake.
i did find that the relay with the black connector had popped out of the cover, exposing the coil inside. this may have been bouncing about, and hitting the points.
none of my spares fit that connector, and o'reilly's didn't have the right one so tomorrow lunch break is a parts run to Ford
i did get a wiring diagram from Faxon. real good set of diagrams.
