ok so i got a 5.0 in a 89 ranger and im doing the wiring, well im atempting to do the wiring. my queastion is does anyone have any wiring diagrams how they did it or kind of give me some pointers on how to get it wired up do the son of a !*$#@ runs i did as much research on this site as well as other sites, and im just lost in the sauce.

Google Harwood Performance, order the $25 swap manual. It will get you running.

If you're going fuel injection, buy an EVTM for the harness ou are using, or download free Mustang EVTMs at www.veryuseful.com

thanks was wondering if theres anyway i can tell what year computer i have like can i go to the parts store and they can look it up

Found out from a fellow Ranger enthusiast that for the 2.9L to 5.0L swap, solder in 2 more injector plugs and run an 89 F150 ECM. The 2.9L and the F150s are batch fire injection and the pinouts for the ECM were the same. He told me he ran the F150 box just to make sure the pulse-width for the injectors was correct and would not starve the engine for fuel. But he said you could probably get away with using the 2.9L ECM in a pinch.

do you have the ford part number E700-00000-AAAA for instance the first two digits are the year E7 would be 87 E=8 F=9 or decade then year F2 would be 92

wait so your tellin me use the wiring harness from the ranger with the 2 extra fuel injectors and then use the 5.0 brain, does it really work

cause if it did it would be to easy to do this wiring

Im also doing a efi 5.0 swap in my 90B2. Just downloaded that manual from Harwood, looks pretty helpful.

My question is when removing the old 2.9 ECM and harness it seems some of the chassis wiring is in with the engine harness. Anyone care to explain how they removed the old wiring before starting to swap in the v8 harness?

damn brian. i forgot all about you bud, sorry! i still havent looked through my stuff, im having a hard time remembering how the wiring on the 2nd gen trucks are set up. you can at least start on the passengers side floor, pull the computer and feed that wiring through the firewall. keep the heater wires and the fuel pump stuff though, you might have to cut the tape off of the harness.

the big white plug on the firewall should be able to stay intact, its all headlights, speakers, etc etc.

most of the engine harness should unplug from the rest of the truck, i'm trying to find my evtm's so i can take a look and give you a little more info. ill try to get back with ya asap but tomorrow's gonna be a busy day.

Don't think that is quite right to do that. Just pay Matt the $25 and download it yourself, sure some of that material is copyrighted. If it isn't, he still worked hard to produce it.

Unless yours is a 1990 also your better off to just get the one for your truck.

Not to sound like a dic but I paid my 25.00 for a copy and there is enough good info in there I would say its worth your 25.00 also.

X2 if so im deffinetly going efi for a 5.0

Go to bigblockranger.com and check out the 5.0L section. He is the one who clarified this for me. I had always had a notion that it would work.

If you really take the the time and do the research on EEC-IV PCMs and the way that it works (minus the SEFI 5.0L HO...bka Mustang and Mark VII) you'll find out that they all work the same and use the same parts.... for instance, 2.9L V6s use a TFI module- so do EFI V8s. It's the same part, I have swapped a V8 TFI module to a 2.9L just to be sure. MAP sensors, MAF sensors, etc. etc. It's all the same stuff. Just look at wiring diagrams in the back of Haynes manuals. Granted, it's a pain to read and follow, but all the info is there. Ford even uses the same basic colors in the harnesses for the same operations. So if you look at the diagram and notice that all the injectors fire at the same time, what are 2 more injectors wired in??

So you rearrange the location of a few things, add 2 injector plugs, and you're done.
