After many hours of frustration, I have my truck up and running but I have found that the wire from relay to starter gets hot, what could be causing this? My mechanic can't even tell me why. The only thought was maybe the solenoid connection was touching the engine block. I could see maybe something shorten out but not getting hot and shutting down the starter.

if the starter is shorted it can draw too many amps and heat the cables pretty good... that or the cable is bad or too small.

take a voltmeter and connect 1 lead to the positive battery post and the other lead to the post on the starter. if the meter reads more than 1 volt this means the cables from the battery to the starter are bad and have too much resistance.

repeat the same test with the negative battery cable.

if the cables are ok then the starter might be shorted

Thanks I will try this. It is my second starter and the battery harness is new OEM.

keep in mind that new doesn't always mean good.
