94 ford ranger >>>recently ive been having a problem with my wipers when they are on for a while on any intermittent setting except slow or fast they will like stop in the middle pf a wipe and then start again and be fine for a little and then do it again, i could hear the wiper governor clicking and figured that was the problem so i had replaced it with a junk yard part and am still having the same issue. So either i got a bad governor or the problem is somewhere else. Im leaning toward replacing the multifunction switch next any help would be appreciated thanks.

Sounds like the park switch in the wiper motor is bad (part of the motor, you'll need to replace the wiper motor).

but how can the motor be bad if it works fine in slow and fast but not in any of the intermittent settings? How would the ford dealer diagnose a problem like this if it doesnt do it?

The interval wipers rely heavily on the operation of the park switch (every sweep).

When it's running continuously, that switch only needs to function once when you turn the control off.

You could try taking the motor apart (if possible) and cleaning the contacts on it, maybe it's just dirty.

ok ill try it and see if it comes apart but i read of someone else having this problem and the guy was sure it was the multifunction switch that was bad? im not sure but there cant be to many more things that control the operation of the wipers.

The multifunction switch has no control over the wipers stopping in the middle of a sweep, that's the job of the park switch circuit.

The other possibility might be the wipers are intermittently loosing power alltogether (like when you turn the key off), although them moving again when the interval relay clicks points more to a park switch issue.
