Windshield question

59193

A place said they have one, just have to pull it out...that was last Wednesday. Sigh.
Called them Friday and they said “oh yeah, ummm, we’re working on it, call you back soon.

Still waiting....

Around here lexan or plexiglass is more expensive than glass.

Dang, it's just over $200 for a new one here installed. Wouldn't bother with junkyard windshields, there's no cost savings for me... hundred bucks for a glass shop to remove one and install a used one, plus the cost of the used part, and they won't guarantee that they won't break it... nah

Our mud race tracks around here require actual auto glass windshields. I am guessing that it's because lexan could potentially break and stab the driver during a wreck. Gets scratched up very easily too.

We get them free in Florida.

I am sure your insurance rates reflect that "free" service..............

Dang. Ya'll's winders is expensive. LOL

Here I average $175 for new glass installed from the Carlex factory outside of town.

Found a windshield,$75 and it says ranger on it in marker. Square cut edges so it looks like the right one and there was a windshield beside it saying “Mazda pickup 04” and while it’s about the same size, it has rounded edges (like the newer rangers) so I think this might be it!!
Picked up $75 just got to wait until the wife gives my truck back so I can go get it. (Don’t want to try and stick it in the back of the wife’s new focus titanium 😂)

I’m putting it in myself so only the cost of the glass for me. Yeah if it was a street vehicle I’d have a shop put it in with the proper varathane adhesive etc, but for my mud truck that doesn’t even have the chrome trim?? Caulking gun of waterproof bathtub silicone works perfect!
If it even does come loose or leak I’ll just put straps on it like a stockcar. 😆

Dont use bathtub silicone, once dry you can never recaulk. Silicone wont stick to cured silicone.
I would use a thermoplastic sealant like Mulco Supra Expert or Tremco 830. It does shrink while curing so leave a convex bead.

That says love right there.
That says asshole not love, lol. The tech was a miserable jerk and when I complained to Safelite they pretty much just told me to F off. I have had three windshields installed since then and have used a different company, a local business that has been more than happy to have it. One of those only cost me $50 because they were running a deal and it was an insurance claim. They have always left the truck cleaner than when they started.

a thermowhatnow?
Silicone is what’s holding it in now, I’ll just strip it off the cab with a scraper...or a ballpeen. 😆
And more importantly, I have the silicone in the garage and have no idea where to source that thermo stuff.
I just got home 10 minutes ago from picking it up. Going to confirm it fits and jam it in.

Lol, no doubt.

I’m going to end this thread here because my question was answered and I acquired a windshield finally.

The actual redneck install will be in the donkey build/rebuild thread.

Thanks for the help guys.
