I'm bummed. While driving home from work today (after finding out that it was my last day on my temp job :bawling:)

A passing dump truck gave me a nice little present on my windshield. :annoyed: A nice little chip in the passenger side of it.

What's a god price to have the chip repaired and what's a good price on a NEW Carlite windshield installed?

Any companies I should avoid? What's a good CASH price on getting the chip fixed and/or the glass replaced?

It's been a rough day.

I usually fix them myself, you can buy the windshield chip repair kit for 10-20 dollars you may still be able to see the spot where the chip was but its less noticeable and it won't spread into a crack

if u have insurance go to jiffy lube theyll fix the chip for free after calling ur insurance company. if ur provider says no they still fix it.

^^^ I'll go this route next time. I paid $22.50 to have someone repair mine. The kit is good for more than one repair IIRC.

I hear you man! I put a new windshield in and it was perfect for about a year! Then a couple weeks ago I got a nasty ol rock chip RIGHT where I look out. Center of the drivers side...I was mad all that day haha

I have to pay $100 then insurance kicks out the rest, but they only do it if its in the line of sight. Passenger side had a huge spiderweb crack, so I just put a sleeping bag on the hood, took a rock and beaned the drivers side of the windshield. Then it got replaced. That darn "road construction". And no hate comments . . .INSURANCE FRAUD!!! It wasnt really, the passenger side crack was the size of a tennis ball and was dangerous, so I was protecting my truck and myself.

I'll be paying cash. I don't have insurance on the truck because it isn't required in NH.

Update:

Good news! I got the chip fixed at Granite State Glass & it was only $35! (Thank you AAA discount!). They were the least expensive by a long shot. Everybody else wanted $50-$100, JUST FOR THE REPAIR!!!!

Even better, I was in & out in under 20 minutes. If anybody needs auto glass work and is within shouting distance, I'd recomend them in a heartbeat!

Thats a bit risky. Even if insurance wasn't required here, id still have it. You just have to make one mistake to cause an accident and then your screwed. Especially if there are serious injuries.

It's a risk I choose.

Besides, Mass drivers are a bit more wreckless (or is it more prone to wreck) than ones from NH.

so you don't need liability?

Nope. NH doesn't require auto insurance of ANY kind. They do put your vehicle through a pretty thorough ANNUAL inspection.

I've seen cars rejected for chips in the windshield. You can't have ANY rust holes in ANY body panel.

I'm glad they do that because some of the stuff I've seen driving in Indiana, Missouri, and Ohio is SCAREY!
