my pump is toast, i got a new one and my Haynes book says i gotta take the washer holder/coolent holder out to replace it, i can just rach down and unhook it, do i really need to take out all tha to replace a squirter pump?:shok:

You could probably change the pump with the reservoir still in the truck, but I think it ends up being much easier to pull it out.

When mine went bad, I actually took the entire motor apart, cleaned everything and rebuilt it, and it worked. So you could try that too and return the one you bought, or have a spare.

It's easier to pull it out. It's only a couple screws and two hoses..IIRC.

I just did mine a couple months ago and it didn't take long. There is a round ring that needed to be pressed on, it would be a PITA to do it not on a bench.

well if its decent out side ill do it then, thanx guys

i have never needed to pull the tank out. not on my 87 or on my dads 89. use needle nose pliers to pull that metal ring out, clean stuff and put it all back. most of the time this works and it will save you a few bucks.

same for me. would of posted earlier but it was being a PITA. i used starting fluid to soften the plastic a little and disolve the crap around the pump after i pulled the circular retainer. pulled the pump, cleaned it up and put it back together. 15 minutes tops.
