Window won't go up

OK guys my driver side window will go down but not back up. I can hear the motor going so I'm not sure what the problem is. My dad thinks it is the switch so I am going to clean the contacts and see if that works. Does anyone have any other suggestions for things to try? I am fairly new to auto repair and this truck is my project. Any help is appreciated.

If you can hear the motor running when you hit the switch it has be the motor's spur gear or the regulator.


Just take the door panel off and look to see what is happening.

+1 also clean both switches while you are at it on both doors,

If you can hear the motor running the rollers in the gear assembly have probably self destructed.

Tap on it with a hammer, the regulator that is....

If you can't fix it yourself it is gonna cost a bunch. Call around to some shops to get a good price on the repair. We have a guy in our area that does mobile window repairs and he is half the prices of local shops and dealers. He has been around for a log time. Maybe you have one near you? Check your local Yellowpages or Craigslist.

I'm pretty sure that it is the spur gear but I'd that something I can replace or do I need a whole new assembly
