Any body know of a good winch for under 500 bucks thats worth anything?

SmittyBilt XRC-8000. I have one and it's always done what it is supposed to do. I haven't tested it on my Ranger because, Rangers don't get stuck LOL. However, I have had to pull an Exploder and a couple of baby jeeps out of harms way, no problem, worked fine everytime.

CLICKYhttp://www.4wheelparts.com/XRC8-Winch.aspx?t_pl=6208&t_pn=S/B97281 $300.00 and I think the shipping is free also.

+1 on the SmittyB. XRC-8. And if you buy it from 4WD.com (jeepwhores) you can get their lifetime warranty for it for about $40, that covers the solenoid, motor, and cable i believe, thats what i did! :icon_thumby:

i can't find that lifetime warranty where do you choose that option?

If you have a TSC nearby, pick up a couple extraction straps too. Nobody that I have extracted has had any at all and have always used mine. The proper way to do it, is use your own when someone has to pull YOU out, that way YOUR stuff gets muddy. But it's all good, at least one of us was thinking ahead LOL.

While we're on it, a Fire Extinguisher and a First Aid Kit may come in handy as well. I have one of those medium size plastic storage boxes from Wal-Mart. In it I have; a blanket, first aid kit, snake bite kit, compass, batteries, aspirin, water purification tablets, cloth diaper (they make great compresses for big wounds) and of course my recovery gear. The small stuff fits nicely in a smaller plastic box that I found in the camping section at Wal-Mart. The medium box fits nicely behind the drivers seat in an XLT.

The fire extinguisher mounted nicely behind the passenger seat. I didn't want one of those bullshit extinguishers that Wal-Mart sells, mainly because of the mounting bracket. I wanted something that I could securely mount to the back wall of my truck. I removed the trim on the back wall and there was what appeared to be a rail that ran across the back, that's what the trim mounted to. I just drilled some pilot holes in that, then used metal screws to mount the bracket. It doesn't rattle (may squeak a little), and is easily accessed if I need it quick.

I believe you have to call and ask for that option and order it through the phone. Thats how I got mine.

k thanks, i will be doing that. i mean $40 bucks for a lifetime warranty, you could not buy a warn winch for that extra 40 bucks

Yea, some people piss and moan about its speed but its plenty fast for me, and some people say its not a winch if it isn't a warn, or warns the only way to go, I sure as hell don't compete in top truck challenge so this is perfect for me. Just have to ignore those types of blind people i guess. Don't get me wrong, i'd love to have a warn, i just can't and dont feel like spending twice as much for "speed". *rant over* lol. I'm sure you'll love it, i sure do. :icon_thumby:
