Hi all,

I have a 2021 ranger 4x4. It comes with 265/60-18 tires. I have a set of snows that are perfectly good that are a size 235/60-18. Can I use them on the ranger? I know their a little shorter and a little more narrow and the speedo will read 62mph when it's really doing 65mph (yes... i looked at the tire size calculators...) I'm ok with the speedo being a little off to save like $1000 in snow tire cost.... What I'm asking is there something I've not considered that would be a reason not to do this?

Thanks for any and all input/opinions

Not that much shorter, I wouldn't see any reason not too. Narrower tires would probably better in the snow anyway.

Should work. I think the speedo change goes the other way, though. The smaller tire has to travel faster or more rpms to attain the same speed. So if speedo says 65, your only going 62.

Taller tire gives a lower indicated speed. Shorter tire gives a higher indicated speed.

My old 235/75R15 tires made my speedometer read about 2 mph fast. My current 31X10.5 15 tires make my speedometer read about 2 mph slow. Thus why I travel at the speed limit (indicated) now to avoid getting a ticket.

That is just a generalization though. At some speeds, the indicated speed is different than actual travel speed but usually in about that range +/- 1 mph since a speedometer isn’t a calibrated precision instrument.

Yes.

It will cause both axles to fall off, and your mother will cry herself to sleep every night for the next 7 years.
