I would like to know if this exchange is possible ?
I have been having trouble with my 4x4 Ranger Auto hubs I have had them apart several times cleaning them checking them all from the guidance from this site and the site is great!
I can not see anything wrong with these hubs in the form of wear.
I have used them so rarely there shouldnt be anything worn. The plastic parts are like new just that when engaged I get a lot of slipping from one side? Take it all apart including the hub all looks good.
So, yesterday passing the dump I see this Ford 150 4x4 Newer year then my 95 ranger could be 2002
I took the manuel hubs home I will return to get the nuts and what ever to complete the parts list.
Will the Ford 150 4x4 Manuel hubs be usable on the Ford Ranger ?
Ranger has auto hubs and I believe the larger Dana 35 axel as the casing is ribbed.
Thanks for any imput...on this

The swap you are wanting to do will not work directly. The axle from an F-150 is a Dana 44 and is bigger than the components for the Dana 35 that is on your truck. You can put the knuckle for the 44 onto your 35 with some modifications, but you will need to change your rims too.

Thanks, I was just about to check one rim and the hole with the hub. I thought the 150 hub might be a bit bigger.
I am not sure what you mean by the knuckle though.
So I guess it is not worth my time trying to get the Washers, rings, spacers, and clips that are on the axel by the spline. I believe they are cheap enough to obtain at a auto parts store.

Dump the auto hubs as they are very undependable, and get a set of Warn locking hubs along with the install kit (nuts and washers). Doing it this way you are ensured that your truck will be in 4 wheel drive as long as your hubs are locked in. May cost in upwards of $200 + but will be worth it in the long run.

i've heard some strange things from people doin the 44 knuckle swap. but the f-150 has a bigger bolt pattern. but everyone is more happy with manual hubs

Ok Got it. If they were the right fit I would play...
However what is it with auto hubs ?
I have had them all apart and they look fine, what is slipping ?
is it the hub housing slipping on the collar when engaged ?
something like a boat propeller when the rubber bond breaks from the prop. The prop still turns via the shaft but the prop blade cannot take any torque only slow rpms or it will just slip .

TC In my experience, 9 times out of 10 the auto hubs don't fully engage or disengage because the factory grease has turned into something resembling fully cured JB weld. Most times you can soak some penetrant into the guts to soften the sludge and free them up. Hope this helps. If not, a manual hub swap is the way to go. Those autos run about $370 each at the dealer I work for.
