I am attempting to trouble shoot a problem with my 1988 Ranger 2 wd automatic. It will not turn over! The starter solenoid/relay clicks but starter with not operate. Here is what I know:
Battery is good 13 +/- volts, solenoid/relay new, starter removed and tested ok at local parts store, top lug of starter solenoid/relay gets 13 +/- volts, only getting 9 +/- volts at the starter connection and the same voltage from the red/lt blue wire at the "s" terminal of solenoid/relay, motor is not seized (turned over using socket and breaker bar on the crank shaft bolt).
I know that the neutral safety switch can be a problem but since I am getting voltage from the red/lt blue wire at the solenoid/relay "s" terminal and the backup lights work, I am assuming that it is working properly also.
I'm out of ideas, anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks for your help!
