will my dana 28 take 5.0 power???????

i had a 84 ranger when i was 16 with a 351w , my d28 handled it because i dident wromp on it, it will handle it, its real easy to brake stuff, if i were you drop in a d35 you will have way more fun. its highly not recomended v8+d28

Dana 28s break under stock tires and V6 power. There was one under my stroker at one point. I was able to break axle shafts on command. If you aren't stupid with it you can use it. Carry spare parts, weld your u-joint caps on and weld around the yokes. Mine made it a few trips with that setup before.

I break d-28 axles with a 3.0 and 235's! Yes you can put the v-8 in now and worry about replacing the front end later. Start looking for a deal on a d-35 now though.

i got ya beat, i used to break a d28 a weekend with 215's and a 327k mile 2.9

Well, Acording to a lot of the people here, the 2.9 is faster than the 3.0(yeah right). It makes more low end torque and torque is what breaks things.

I'm running stock 7.5" 3.73 rears under a 1988 4wd with a 302 and C6. Don't romp on it really but the truck is resprung and hauls 2500# loads many times over the course of a week...it's my firewood hauler.

The 7.5 is not the issue. With welded gears or an after market diff it is just as strong as a Ranger 8.8.

Yes the dana 28 will work but you can only crawl around and dont turn the tires to far, i've broken the hubs, u-joints and the shaft usually breaks when the u-joint breaks. One time i got stuck in sand in 2wd, put it in 4wd trying to ease out of the hole and broke a hub. The 7.5 did decent while it was under there, just kept breaking the spider gears. I got an 8.8 from an explorer under there now with no problems.
