will a superrunner kit fit both 2wd and 4wd?

Yes it is the same kit. I would JUMP all over that, even if you have to replace the TRE's, it is still a steal.

Superlift has a different part number for 2WD vs 4x4. I'm not sure what the difference is though (might be shorter tierods, if so it won't work).

On a '87 Ranger with the Dana 28, I would say it would work.

Even if it had shorter tie rods, you can get new tie rods from Superlift for $95 each. That would still be just over have what it cost new and it would be pretty much new itself.

Ummm... only if the rest of the kit is the same. But by that time you've spent 3/4 what a new proper kit costs anyway (and would still have the old TRE in the centerlink).

also 2wd tie rod ends mount under the knuckle arm vs on top like a 4wd.
atleast with the 88 and older 2wd's I know.

well I was going to have to lengthen the tie rods someday for when I go dana44 ttb. Yes I know you all will say that the d44 sucks. but i live in the desert area more than rocky area. where i hunt there is lots of sand. so would you guys buy it or let it go.

I would buy it. At worst you have to sell it, and depending on the shape of the system, you might be able to make some money.

Why would someone say the D44 sucks? :icon_confused:
If you actually need a wider axle, a D44 certainly would be the ticket.

I would try to find some pics of the 2WD kit idlerarm and it's bracket online maybe to compare it to the 4WD kit. There are differences in the crossmember that bracket attaches to, but I'm not sure if they'd affect the mounting of it.

FWIW, this is what the 4WD one looks like:
