Will a ranger 2003 auto trans bolt on a 2001?

I have a Ranger XLT 2001 with the 4L V6. The OD light has started flashing and shifting hard. I discovered that Ford shipped a bad tranny series early 2001 and lucky me...I have it. Instead of fixing the bad one over and over I wonder if the same 5 speed automatic out of a 2003 or later might bolt in and solve the issue???

everything from the 2001-2003 rangers are the same. only exception i know of is the 02-03 have torsen diffs and our 2001s dont. try looking on car-part.com i got a 2001 trans out of a 2 door explorer from a place in blacksburg sc for 300 bucks cant beat that
