Hey all! I have a problem, i cant find a 2000 3.0 engine any where in Indiana!!! i found a 1994 and i am wonder if it will work in my 2000 and what all i need to swap out?? thanks so much!!!

It's doable, but would be a little work on your part. All 3.0 longblocks are interchangeable, so the 94 longblock will work, but you'll need to swap your top end including the cam synchro onto the older longblock. I know an Indiana member with an 04 3.0 for sale if you're interested.

How much swapping would I have to do for the 04' and the heads and all are the same for the 94' correct? Just the intake and syncro I will change over?

It would be less swapping with the newer motor. If your 00' has egr, then you'd have to swap all of those components over, or delete all of the egr stuff entirley and buy a tuner to eliminate it from the ecu.
If your truck doesn't have egr, or you decide to get rid of it in the ecu, then you should pretty much be able to drop the newer motor right in.

well i couldn't pass up a deal i got on this engine. it is the 94'. but the top end looks different now that its home and side by side. my 2000 has hydrolic lifters and the 94' doesn't. so do i have to change the lifters as well when i switch the heads? the intake will not mount up to the existing heads. hope i didnt get bit on this.

also, i noticed STMITCH on another forum that you have converted your pulley fan to a electric fan from a new ranger. Can i get the details on that?? sounds sweet and i love your ranger by the way!!

Lifters are the same between 94 and up.

The lower intakes should be the same so it doesn't matter what upper you use, but you'll want to keep the 00 as its better. If you're concerned just swap the lower too. I swapped a 98-00 intake (upper and lower, but that's because I had to replace my lower) onto my 93 with no issues, and it's a semi-common mod.

thanks locovaca, from just looking at it the lifters seem to set a little deeper into the block so i was wondering about that. i meant that my lower intake will not bolt up to the 94' heads in my last post but i haven't looked at the upper yet to see if it matches the existing lower.

Here is some pics i believe what you are sdaying im just confused with what i have.

the first pic is the 94' lower, the second is the 94' engine, then the 2000 engine, 2000 lower, and the 94' block numbers for what ever reason

They didn't make the 2.9 in 94. If it was anything else it'd be a 4.0. Compare your pics to here:

I've not worked with a 4.0 but it's looking like that might be the case, based on the lower intake - block bends. 4.0s had EDIS, so if you have a coilpack, that'd be a dead giveaway; a 94 3.0 will have a distributor setup. They also had different valve covers; 3.0's have always had plastic that said 3.0 on them.

i know, i think its an older engine. i am going to talk to the guy and get my money back and start over since it will not work anyway..
