Why would Ford recommend a tranny service at 3K on a new truck?

My buddy just got a new Explorer and bought the prepaid service from Ford Corp. (not a 3rd party service contract). The dealer scheduled him for a tranny service at 3K. (Keeping 1st motor oil change at 7,500.)

Anyone ever hear of Ford recommending that?

I got a new Ranger that's coming up on 3K so I'm just curious.

Most likely a break-in oil change. The engine can be broken in by running it at 2k rpm for 20 minutes...The trans would have to be driven (IE miles added to vehicle) for it to be broken in...

Both vehicles are auto.
It's interesting that Ford's opting for it and they're paying for it. So, perhaps they see it as a nice preventative move. For a couple hundred bucks, I might condsider it on mine.
