Why 4 > 6

And with that combination I say "Oops, I almost forgot there was a load of wood in the bed" instead of "maybe if I get a running start at this hill I won't have to piss people off behind me for doing 35mph".

ROFL!! Best post ever!

Im sorry but the colorado 5 cylinder was junk even chevy would admit to that thats why they axed it so quickly. Nothing but problems with it.

Actually, I wouldn't mind having the inline 6 from a trailblazer transplanted into a 2wd colorado xtreme or whatever they renamed the xtreme. THAT Would be a kickass little ride IMO. Those 6's put out, if i recall correctly, damn near 300hp and 300ft/lbs.

Even in a Trailblazer(big heavyish SUV), friggin' thing scoots pretty darn good!

They put I6's in the Trailblazer??? Really? I have never seen one, I know they have the SS T blazers with the 5.3L.

I thought it was only the I4 or V6?

found a picture... huh thats weird...

GM debuted the 4200 I-6 in '02. It was discontinued (along with the Trailblazer) in '08.

Yeah...when the S10 and Blazer were axed and the colorado and trailblazer came to light, the truck got the 5cyl inline and the suv got the 6cyl inline.

BTW...SS trailblazers have a 6.0L.

From what I hear (from friends and family that have them), the 5-banger was the biggest POS engine GM's produced since the 350 diesel.

Huh, they must be getting lemons or something, the one we use on the farm runs good :P

My 90 Ranger, 4x4, 2.3 5 speed and 4.10s was getting 28 MPG for my 100 mile roundtrip commute before I took it off the road for a rebuild. And that was with 6" lift, 31" tires and those big baja style pre-runner fenders. That includes a moutain pass each way. 1st through 3rd are fine and rarely did I have people stacked up behind me in the pass. And sometimes I could actually stay in 5th when the speed limits hit 65. BUT, I know the truck wasn't a speed demon, freeway speeds were no fun. The run from 65 to 75 takes about half the trip... But then, when I bought it, it was for my teenaged son. Served its purpose, and now, its a "toy". If I ever get it finished...

The colorado is still available with the 3700 I-5...they didn't axe it. Also, that engine makes more power/torque than my 4.0 SOHC, albeit at higher RPM.

I will admit that there are some good 5-bangers out there, namley the Volvo one /w a turbo.

I love the turbo volvo engines. you rest your foot on the pedal and it spools up and gets you running at 85 before you even notice.

As for the chevy I-5 making the power at high RPM, most chevy engines hit their peak near red-line. The D-max engines are about half worthless because even though they put out more torque at peak than the Powerstroke they do it at about 2850 RPM when they have a 3100 red-line. The 6.4 makes its peak torque around 1900-2100 giving it a much higher rated tow capacity.

End result, Ford can tow more because it can get more weight started off.

The Colorado's 3.7L I-5 makes:

242 hp @ 5600 rpm
242 lb-ft @ 4600 rpm
Redlines @ 6300

My 4.0 SOHC makes:

207 hp @ 5250 rpm
238 lb-ft @ 3000 rpm
Redlines @ somewhere around 6500 rpm.

So I have substantially less horse power at a slightly lower rpm, but I have about the same torque at a substantially lower rpm. Torque is the number that matters here, and more torque at lower rpm is better.

BTW my truck has enough torque that i can put it in low-range and just idle over pretty much anything. Try doing that with a little 4-banger.
