Question: I'm going to swapping my 1995's stock bushing'd (saggy) crossmember for an old solid crossmember. I'd like to replace my tranny mount while I'm at it.

Last time I did this (my other 1995, which got wrecked) I started with an aftermarket (duralast) mount that lasted less than a year before the rubber split from the metal. I then swapped to a Polyurethane mount, which I've since read is not a good thing to use with stock rubber motor mounts.

So, who makes decent transmission mounts that are good to use with stock motor mounts?

I went through 3 or 4 different (aftermarket) trans mounts before I found one that would last more than six months to a year (a factory made-in-U.S.A. Motorcraft mount). Every one of them did the same thing, the rubber would come unbonded from the metal part.

I can't tell you off hand if factory ones are still available though with the Ranger having been dead for 6 years now.

I'm not sure I see any issue with using a urethane mount. Mostly it's there just to hold up the rear of the trans, there's no twisting or rotating forces counteracting on it like there would be on the motor mounts.

Just looked, my mount is hosed. Likewise, OE ones are unicorns as I don't see them on ebay. I'll check rockauto (and dealer sites) but otherwise I may just move over the mount from the dead truck (which is still in my possession).

Late reply:

I ended up pulling and reusing the Polyurethane mount. The polyurethane Energy Suspension used ("hyperflex") is indeed quite soft and pliable, so I don't think I will have an issue.

The crossmember bushings were hosed as well, good thing I was swapping to a solid crossmember off a 1991 Ranger:

Driving it after, I noticed no excessive vibrations... it actually seemed smoother. Then again, before all my bushings and mounts back there were sagged to the point of probably being metal on metal.
