Who has unplugged their airbag system?

Yep, after some research and poking around I'm sure it's the clock spring.
If these things go bad all the time I'm not so sure I want to replace it.
Are these clock springs junk?
If so I'll just bypass the horn and forget about the airbag.
I've driven vehicles without airbags from 1985 to 2000(when I got my first after 70's car) so not having one again doesn't matter that much to me.
But if I can be confident that the problem will not come back then I will do the clock. spring. It just makes no sense to reward Ford for making a crappy part by giving them money for another one...and another one...and another one...

those are not that common to fail, for what ive seen. in fact none of our Rangers had issues with that

This is the first time I've ever heard of a Ranger clock spring failing. I'm sure it happens occasionally, but it is not a common failure. Just fix it and move on.

make sure you check the code first though! you never know... its free to do, and it could save you a headache/money. the airbag will flash(#of times), pause, flash(#of times), long pause, then repeat the code. for example, if it flashes like this..
flash 5x, pause, flash 3x, long pause, flash 5x, pause, flash 3x. your code would be "53". post it up here and someone could check it for you.

After hearing it's not common to go bad I went ahead and ordered a clock spring.
Thanks for all the info everyone.
I hope this one holds up better than the first one.

I've been away from home for the better part of the week.
Hopfully the new clock spring arrived in the mail so I can put it on.
I'm giving this stupid clock spring device one more chance, if it fails again I'm bypassing it.

The clock spring is in and everything is now working properly.
Thanks for everything.
