Which wheel bearings for 99 ranger 4wd?

I'm getting ready to replace the wheel bearings in my 99 ranger 4wd, but when I go to AutoZone's website, I see 3 different sized bearing kits available. How do I know which to get?

There's a 3/4" wheel bearing kit, a 1" kit and a 1-1/4" kit.

Also, I've never done this before (replace a wheel bearing) so I'll gladly accept any tips/tricks/gotchas anyone has that might save me some headache, time or money.

Thanks for any info!

For your '99 it should be either with or without ABS, I've never seen a size option for those.

Edit: I assume you meant front wheel bearings, otherwise disregard what I said.

Edit again: I checked autozone's website and don't see what you're referring to. Front wheel bearings are either with or without ABS and rear bearings are either 7.5 ring gear or 8.8 ring gear.

For 4wd?....the only difference is going to be RABS and 4WABS. Check to see if a wire pigtail leads down to your hub assembly. If so, you have 4WABS.

Autozone Part#
Timken #515026 (RABS)
Timken #515027 (4WABS)

Advance Part#
National #515026 (RABS)
National #515027 (4WABS)

Yes, Front (sorry I didn't mention that) Wheel Bearings is what I'm looking for.

On AZ's website, I entered my vehicle info then did a search for Wheel Bearing Kit and it returned three to choose from. All from Reese with part #s of 72789, 72790 and 72791. Just did it again on their site (to make sure I didn't mistype something), with the same results.

That being said, I was hoping to just replace the bearings, but a friend of mine just told me the 99 rangers have non-servicable wheel bearings (meaning I'd have to replace the entire wheel bearing/hub assembly????). If so, that's a huge jump from ~$30 to ~$300 (depending on where I get the parts). EEK!

Is it true that I can't just repack or replace the wheel bearings?

EDIT: No Front ABS that I can tell, btw.

No unfortunately you can't grease the bearings or anything, when they go you need to replace the whole assembly. Lucky for you the ones without ABS are a little cheaper.

Yeah. Lucky me.

Since I'll have to replace the whole hub assembly anyway, is there possibly a serviceable direct fit replacement hub assembly I could install? I know it won't save me any $$ now, but going forward it would at least allow me to maintain the bearings myself. Any thoughts on that?

Either way, thanks for the info you've provided already.

No, as said before they are non-serviceable and replaced as a hub assembly. The part numbers you are bringing up are probably for trailers....Reese is a company that makes trailer hitches and accessories.

The part numbers you posted are for trailer wheel bearings. Here is the link for your bearings.
