I'm looking at the auto Fab v8 conversion mounts or the l&l products . My question is which one do you all prefer? I was using the stock v6 mount with the plates but I felt like they would be a weak point.

How much power are you running?

I haven't heard of V6 mounts failing.

I just used the mounts out of my expo donor in my 05. Fit like a champ.

Depends on the front suspension:

98 and newer coil spring use V6 mounts with custom plates bolted to the block.

98 and newer torsion bar use same V6 mounts and OEM Explorer V8 plates.

For earlier Rangers, Fox body convertible engine mounts (forger the year) are the common/low cost path.

Never heard of any of those paths not holding up under sane power levels.

IMO (as someone with fox convert mounts) V6 mounts with plates are better.

FWIW Fox convert mounts are the same as SN-95 (94-95 Mustang) mounts.

Believe both the plates and the mounts use the Explorer 5.0 ones.

The truck is a 88 model. The ultimate goal is to have 450hp . As of right now it's just a 306 block with a cam.

I am getting 425hp out of my stroker, but I used the Duff mounts (pricey). I havent ever had any issues out of them though. The stroker is in a 84, 4x4.

How was the install on the duff mounts? The auto Fab look like a straight forward bolt in mount .

They give you a template and you drill some new holes (if I remember correctly). I left the mounts loose on the block when we installed it to help hit the holes and then tightened the bolts on the block. The mount bolts on the frame are a little tricky to get to though (long extention a wiggle and a short socket on the passenger side). There wasnt alot around when I first put in the first 302 (back in 98-99).
