My credo
If you can't go through it or around it, then go over it.
Which transmission do I have in my 2001 F150 5.4l 4wd?

They used the 4r70 behind the 5.4?

Both my expeditions has E4ODs.

I would have assumed his is a 4R100 or whatever the E4OD became

i could be wrong. with gassers the 100 or earlier e40d was E iirc. U was diesel application. always remembered e for e.

pretty sure all the expeditions came with the bigger transmission. pickups were different depending on rating.

thus the j mod.

I always thought any 4.2/4.6 had the 4R and the 5.4s got the beefy stuff (also the bigger rear end)

But i did google it and U is infact the 4r70w...and they were put in 5.4 trucks

They were stingy with the 4R100

Lightning and 7 lug trucks were the only ones for sure to get one. They also got a bigger rear axle 10.25 or something like that.

My '02 5.4 had the 4R70W. Normal 5.4's and IIRC some crew cab 4.6 trucks got the 9.75, everybody else got the 8.8.
