Which Transmission Jack?

I apologize if this is the wrong place to ask, since I don't actually have a transmission problem.

My hubby has a 2002 Ranger 2.3l automatic. I have to replace the EGR valve and vacuum hoses, and I need to lower the tranny to get to them. I need to rent a transmission jack and don't know if I should get the 450lb or the 1000lb jack. I could just rent the bigger one, but it rents by the hour, and the smaller one rents by the day. I'm cheap.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

450lbs will be more than enough.
5R44E trans is probably about 200lbs with fluid, torque converter 35-40lbs with fluid

Just as a "head up", the 2.3l DOHC Duratec engine in your Ranger was designed for transverse mounting in front wheel drive cars.
When it is put in a Ranger it has a Coolant outlet on the back of the engine that can leak.
And, of course, you must drop the transmission to get to it.
You may want to replace this fitting and hose while trans is out, preventive maintenance :)

Thanks for the jack info, and the heads up. There has been a slow coolant leak that I couldn't pinpoint. I appreciate your help.
