which transm do eye have?

My 01 ranger is bone stock w an auto transmission. The OD button defeats overdrive in town, but it only shifts once after I enable OD on the interstate. Some articles refer to a five speed auto in my truck. WTFO? My pan has 18 bolts. Which transm do I have?

As far as the transfer case, service w mercon multipurpose atf transmission fluid xt-2-QDX? Every search brings me to mercon v. Are the two interchangeable?

You have a 5R55E in a 2001 Ranger 4.0l

Transmission is actually a 4-speed(4R55E) that the computer makes a 5-speed by turning on OD in 1st for a faux 2nd gear

1st, OD on = 2nd, 3rd, 4th, OD(5th)
If you "floor it" from a stop computer will usually skip "2nd"(no OD on) and shift to 3rd, just FYI

OD on/off button doesn't effect 2nd gear
Yes, if you have OD OFF and then turn it on on the highway it should shift to OD(5th), just 1 shift


Ford does make a specific Transfer Case fluid, XT-2-QDX, but yes Mercon V is fine to use

Have a 2001 SportTrac here with same frame+drivetrain V6~4.0L~SOHC Engin + 5r55e Trans + 1354 TCase + 4.10 Diffs +...
essentially same as a 2001 Ranger ExtendedCab, except with FullBackSeat & UltraShortBed..
Be sure to replace the TransFilter (4WD DeepPan Version) while you've got TransPan dropped.

~ MerconV for 5r55e Trans, specificly FullSyn AmsOil# SSMVS.ATF1g
~ MerconLV for 1354 TCase, specificly FullSyn Valvoline# MerconLV
