Hello All,
The grandsons '05 Ranger had the Rear End cover rot away with catastrophic results.. We are trying to get an R7 replacement. Seem to have a line on one but some of the numbers are different, namely the model number. Original was Y330K and the replacement is Y333H. All the other numbers are good (4L10 88) on the respective tags except for the model so I am optimistic but just would like to ask the question anyway.. Thanks for your time all.

If the connections all look the same and in the same place as the old axle, you should be good.

I wouldn't get too picky, not a lot matters. The important differences to watch out for is to be the right width needs to be '93 or newer, somewhere around '07 the centering hub on the axle shafts for the drums changed sizes, and '10 and '11 had disc brakes but lost the speed sensor on the ring gear so the speedo on yours wouldn't work... Chances are a Ranger 8.8 will have 10" drum brakes but the brake parts from a Ranger 7.5" will bolt to it if the axle comes without brakes...

Are we talking of replacing the entire rear axle or just the diff cover?

4L10 = 4.10 geared limited slip

88= 8.8” rear axle/ring gear

As far as the cover, any 8.8 cover should work fine.

As to the axle, ideally you want another 8.8” 4.10 limited slip out of a 93+ Ranger. An open 4.10 would work, but you lose the limited slip if that’s something you want.

With a little work an Explorer 8.8 can be used, but you’re probably going to need to cut and weld spring perches among other things
