If this is to swap into an existing truck, it depends very strongly on the model year of the recipient.
The OBD-II (later) electronics are better in the sense that they are much more sophisticated at detecting problems. However, they aren't enough of an improvement to warrant gutting a donor to swap all the wiring, sensors, PCM, exhaust, etc.
The later automatic transmissions also require different (more) computer signals than the earlier ones. A mismatch will yield either missing gears in the transmission or a continuous complaint from the PCM.
