I have a 98' 2wd xlt reg cab ranger with the 2.5L. When I bought the truck, the diff cover was rusting through so I had it replaced. Now I want to know what gear ratio I have in my truck. Is there any way to know with out original diff cover tag. The ford dealer told me they can't pull up any specs using my vin, which is a crock. I'm assuming it has 3.73's or 4.10's but would like to know for sure.

How is that a "crock"??

There's no code for the axle in the VIN.

just saying they told me that it was to old and they couldn't pull up any specs on there computer using my vin number. Just simple info and recall imformation. Chevy dealers can pull up everything that was original equipment on there trucks using the vin, including gear ratio. Thats why I said its a crock, was suprised at what little info they could pull up on my ranger.
