Title says it all...if i were to swap in a different 2.3l, what years/models etc would work, or work the best? I'm new to the 2.3l and Ranger in general. Thanks in advance.

'89 to '94, but use your wiring harness and sensors and such.

does yours have a mass airflow sensor? it's a 4 or 5 wire sensor mounted to the air filter box, in mid '90 they added that. also in '93 or '94 they added a DPFE sensor to the EGR tube that has two hoses coming off of the tube, you should be able to take one of the tubes off and loop it to the other hole to get rid of that sensor

actually, where are you at? I have one available from my '90, I'm in Tigard Oregon, it has about 160K on it but it ran fine, would need a new oil pump though since the one that's on it wouldn't work with your oil pan
