Where can I get 4.88 gears for both the front and back on my 01 ranger 4.0l 4x4?
I currently have 4.10 with slightly larger than stock tires. Its very steep here and with a manual tranny hole shot off a 45 degree hill with a load means riding your clutch or a burn out both undesirable not to mention when there is traffic up hill.
Also is there an electric locker made for these rear ends. Thanks

i found a new set of yukon gears for my 8.8 for about 100 bucks on ebay. a dana 35 set should be about the same.

id just get a detroit locker but im sure everyone else on here is gonna say to stay cheap and get a lockright.

an eaton e-locker for the 8.8 31 spline is $700 and the 28 spline is $900. the detroit is $625 in 31 spline.

I dont think I can use auto lockers. The hills here in St. Thomas are very steep and twisted so I would probably lose traction going around hair pin curves up hill in the rain and lose control of my rear end. Besides that they are too noisy and jerky.

Elockers would be great but I cant find one site that sells them for my truck. Will there have to be modifications? I not too conserned with the price it will be worth it. I found were I can get my gears from by the way. Thanks

www.completeoffroad.com is the cheapest place I've found new gears. Order the cheapest gearset they sell....part numbers are the exact part numbers as the Yukon labeled items on the site....I went the cheap route, and ended up getting Yukon Gears. Got my 4.88's for my '01 manual for right about $400 shipped. That included a rear gearset/master install kit, front gears, rear notched crosspin, and shipping.

Why such a large gear?? What size tires are you running?? I'm on 35's and 4.88 is perfect for it.

BTW.....lunchbox locker for a manual trans...not too fun. Can't just let anyone drive the truck. They all need a training course on popping it in neutral to unlock it. I've got an Aussie in the back of my truck.
