Where is the speedo sensor at?

I have a 2001 2wd Edge and I was wondering which wire was the speedo sensor with the small gear inside. As far as I've read I'm pretty sure the sensor was moved to the transmission in 01.

So there's 3 choices, green, orange, and blue. This is a picture of the drivers side looking towards the front end of my truck.

I've already taken the orange one out but it seems to be a greasy black plug. I didn't want to force anything apart because I don't want fluids leaking everywhere.

Or better yet, If anyone knows what color speedo sensor gear I have that would be great. 3.0 L with 3.73 gears stock.

It will be on the output shaft, so the farthest back

The farthest back in the picture or the farthest back on the transmission? If it's the farthest back on the transmission, then I took the bolt off and nothing but a small black rubber stopper looking thing came out. (the one circled in orange.)

Never mind. It's a sensor, not the older style gears. That would explain the whole no gear being found thing. haha. We're all good here now.

The blue circle is the hydraulic line for your clutch.

The green circle is the switch for your backup lights.

The orange circle is the vehicle speed sensor, but there is no little gear on it. In your case it should be what is known as a "variable reluctance sensor". Basically it is a magnet and there is a metal gear on a shaft in the trans. As the teeth of the gear pass through the magnetic field of the sensor it creates an AC voltage signal that increases the vehicle goes faster. The computer then interprets the signal and translates it into a speed that is displayed on the speedometer.

If you see the post immediately before yours I figured that out. Just not as detailed as you explained haha. I take it a ford dealer can reprogram that sensor to indicate the correct speed?

Yeah, I started my post before yours posted.

The sensor itself doesn't get reprogrammed. The instrument cluster does. You may or may not be able to get the speedo set correctly at the dealership. Our scan tool limits our options for gear ratio and tire size to what was available from the factory, so if you put 4.56 gear or 35 inch tires on it, they probably won't be able to get it nose on.

Well then I hope 4.10's and 31s will be pretty easy then. haha

Yeah, 4.10s were an option, and 31s were very close to a factory size, so you should at least be able to get it close.

In case they argue, it's under module programming, programable parameters, personality.
