The Rat came to me without a spare. At some point, the bed was taken off and replaced off kilter somehow. Mebbe it was hacked by whoever replaced the rear spring mounts. Anyway, there is very left of the spare tire carrier. With a 6' bed, I'm constantly having to shift the darn thing. I picked up an Exploder steelie with a 235 75R 15 for 25$. If I could rig a spare carrier where it was under the bed, I would be happy. So, what do you guys do with the spare.? :dunno:

I keep my spare in the garage.

You can use the search function. This has been brought up a few times. Photos have been posted. Check it out.

my spare tire is sitting on the ground under the front end of the truck. when I did my spring hangers I removed it to clean up the frame a bit and the bolt that held the tire in snapped off due to rust... so I said the hell with it and left it off.

Might see about getting a replacement eyebolt from the jy some day, but have not really bothered with it.

whatever you do, dont leave it stock. it will rust enough that you cant get it off when you need it, making you wonder why you spent the money in gas to carry it around.

it actually makes more sense to keep a patch kit and air pump on board, and a aaa card which you should have anyway. the rare times your tire goes flat, you can usually patch it on the spot. and if you cant, just call a tow truck because youre one unlucky sob.

At home. Its H U G E and heavy.
Wayyyyy to much $$ to leave unattended on the trailer. $1K for wheel/tire combo.......

That is all my brother's Mustang came with... kinda unnerving to go charging cross country with freaky tires and a glorified can of fix-a-flat with phone number. I am sure there are bunch of 19" Perrelli P-Zero tires in stock across South Dakota... (we take it to the Sturgis Mustang Rally on the other side of the state) It doesn't fit in the spare tire well but he did get an extra tire to sit in the trunk so at least we can maybe find someone that is able to mount it so we are not completly dead in the water until they get another tire shipped out there.

My Ranger doesn't venture far from home, I have a spare rim but I haven't located a tire yet. It will probably go somewhere in the bed when I get it all together.

My dd has a tire in the stock location under the bed, I drop it and use it as a crutch when I rotate tires to keep things from sticking and to check the pressure. It has the handy cable winch thing that works great when it works but when it doesn't the tire either sticks up in there or the cable breaks and you loose it somewhere along the way.

My back yard... Last time I tried running a 33" and a 31" tire on the same axle, my truck didn't like it too much... Once I get another 33"and I'm gonna throw it back in the bed.

Had to go in the bed with mine

No way a 35 is gonna fit under the bed anymore. Of course I have a tool box and an air tank back there as well, so hauling anything is gone.

Mine always goes in the bed. Cause, it never fails that when you need it, it will be muddy and you are on a dirt road.

AMA and a credit card on road. Full-size 31" spare mounted on floor in back of my B-II for off-road.

My Dad used to carry 2 spares. I am fine with just 1 . I have 235 75 15s and the stock 4x4 suspension. When you are at the beach, the object is to stay out of the water. I carry tools, some dunnage and a tow chain if I go 4 wheeling. I have the bottle jack , some plywood and a shovel. I have tides to deal with to get to where I go. I can usually summon a tow vehicle, but But it is best if I pack certain stuff. I have only had the Rat out to the Sand Dollar once and it did just as good as any of the Grand Wags ever did. I was surprised. I didn't expect it to handle the sand as well as it did. :D

Stray Cat, Thank you. I took your advice. After a while I happened on a thread with you in it. Several opinions were expressed. A good discussion. My old Datsun had a little chain fall you wound up with the jack handle, It worked like a charm. The series 4 Ranger rig looks pretty decent , but not for 225$. I will bodge something together and tether it with a chain. :D

In the garage.

I want to built a bumper, but that's way far off.

Chaining it inside the bed and unchaining is too much of a hassle for a 35".
