So my pickup was bad and i swapped out the whole dizzy. First time doing it and put it in timed it, with the spout out and all that good stuff. Its running smooth but acceleration doesnt seem to be the same anymore, under 3k is where i feel it most. I read a previous post about possibly being a tooth off or so but they never really stated if it was the problem or not. Any ideas? and how do i know its lined up exactly?

Check the timing with the SPOUT in, is it advancing? 10 BTDC is 10 BTDC, if the timing is right, you can't be a tooth off.

You can check the slop in the timing chain by removing the dizzy cap and with a wrench turn the crank clockwise until the rotor turns a little the turn the crank counter clockwise slowly until the rotor moves. You can mark the damper pully to see how far it moves before the rotor turns it should be only a couple degrees. You didnt mention new wires and plugs with the dizzy and stick a spark plug in the coil wire from the dizzy and set it on a good ground and crank on it you shoild get a steady brite blue spark.

If the timing is good and it advances properly try resetting the computer by disconnecting the batt for 1/2 an hour and then run it for 20 min minimum to reset the new values. And allways have everything plugged in when you start the motor or it will throw the computer into limp mode with a fixed timing.

Thanks everybody. Im going to mess with it this weekend. My valves are leaking so Im going to fix that and get new spark plugs, wires and double check everything else. Oh and that original O2 sensor that needs to be changed like 15 years ago. Reset the cpu. Hopefully something will work.

Just do one thing at a time so you know what the problem was. I would put the wires and plugs in then run some seafoam thru it. Get the engine hot then thru the brake booster vacuum fitting on the booster pull about half a can of seafoam thru it and shut the engine off quickly. Let it sit for about 1/2 to one hour then start it and run it around 3000 rpm until the smoke show stops. Park it up wind of the neighbor you dont like first. he he Then go from there
