I just put a 3 inch body lift on yesterday. I need new body bushings. Advance auto doesn't carry them.

Is it possible to make them? Have any of you done it?

Thanks for any help.

you can by a set of poly bushings on summit racing for about 30 bucks if i remember right... that's what i did when i did mine...

hey all,
i just got the idea to make my own rubber bushings out of an old tire i have. have you seen this done?

Homemade body mount bushings out of tire

This evening i made em. I took an old tire and with a portable band saw, i cut the sidewall off, then cut that into 3 pieces. From there, i took one at a time, put it in a vice and "sloppily" cut squares out. IMO, it did not matter one bit what they looked like. some are more triangular, some are actual squares. Since i had already put the 3 inch lift blocks in, it wasn't hard to put the rubber "bushings" in. I just unbolted the 3 on the drivers side, lifted the front with an engine lift and jacked near the back of the cab underneath. I then put two pieces of tire on top of each block and one under each one. I then did the same to the passenger's side, then retightened everything and i just got back from driving about 25 miles. It rode SO MUCH BETTER than without the pieces of tire. Is this completely stupid and unsafe or am i onto a good idea? Oh, it only took me about 2 hrs by myself to do all this. Not very long in my mind....

Ill try to get pics of the project this week.

BTW, i kno that i can pay $50 for some from summit. But i'm only 18 and i can't justify spending that money on something i can make for free and with a little effort.

Thank you.

It rode great to work today! I think my new invention is one that will stick?

Question: i put the PA 3 inch BL on. I tried to put the steering extension in after the lift and the steering shaft WOULD NOT seperate. Have you run into this? What should I do. I can tell the steering is looser now and it feels very sloppy. I really don't think it's from having the lift on in general. Im pretty sure i need to extend the shaft.

Thanks for any help,
calebk
