I have searched for a definitive answer and the most common locations listed for the location of the VIN number on a Bronco II are the tag on the windshield frame at the bottom of the driver side and the sticker on the door pillar. Some results mention the frame. Where on the frame will I find this and does the engine have one?

Thanks

Stuart

Engine or trans will not have vehicles VIN

Yes, Ford used lower windshield frame left or right side, for a VIN label, metal

And on the Build Sticker on back edge of drivers door, paper

Yes there will be 1 or 2 VINs stamped on the frame(not on the body)

There is usually a VIN stamped on the upper frame rail under cab, need a mirror to see it...............if its even visible
In some years they stamped a VIN on top of frame rail in engine bay, left or right side

On those frame stamps, were they stamped into the frame itself or a plate that’s attached to the frame?

Can anyone take a picture of the location of your frame stamped VIN please? I’m not interested in the VIN itself just a good photo to help me locate mine.

Thanks

While looking for frame VINs I noticed what seems to be a port that normally has a hose connected. This is below the battery on my '88 B2, can anyone tell me what its for and if something is missing, if so what are the ramifications?

Thanks

Stuart

Looks like its on the Cold Air Intake tube, so that would be for the air pre-heater tube/hose from a shield around exhaust manifold on that side

All vehicles had these since the 1950's
The tube is flexible and looks like a drier air vent tube but for higher temp, like these: https://img.directindustry.com/imag...ir-intake-pre-heater-hose-147109-18102953.jpg

On cold start the thermal switch(not electric) would open a vacuum port and move the valve inside the part you took a picture of
This would then pull in air from around the now warming up exhaust manifold, pre-heated air
This would help the engine warm up faster
Thermal switch would then close and Cold Air Intake port would be open

This system was not required for proper operation of the engine system, so often left off after engine work
It does help engine to warm up faster which WILL lower emissions on cold starts
So in Calif and some other areas they do check that its there and hooked up, if not you would fail

This is what a shield can look like: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/eo8AAOSwL-1jEP-I/s-l1600.jpg
Bolted to outside of exhaust manifold, you can see the large black vent hose on the right, its a V8 engine so larger hose
Just sucks in pre-heated air for faster warm up
