My credo
Work hard and play harder
You apply for one over seas. That is exactly what I did. I applied to be the infrastructure manager over at RAF Mildenhall. A friend of mine turned me on to the position. This would be the 2nd time for me to spend time at this particular base. It was my first duty station while I was in the AF. It also is an opportunity for me to upgrade my security clearance.

So does this mean you will get stuck with strip, wax, and buffing the floors?

What are the duties of that job?

I don't like my new job but it does have its benefits. Since I was I rifted from my old job as an automotive mechanic to now being a night stocker, I don't like it. But I got to keep my pay for 2 years and all the health care insurance. From mechanic to stocker is a big downgrade in pay, so that makes me the highest overpaid employee. And the higher ups have been trying to push me "volunteer" into a new position. Which I would have to forfit all pay and benefits. So screw that, I'm keeping my pay so I can go through college.

At this point it is unclear what I would be doing. All I do know is that it requires me to upgrade my clearance to TS/SCI. I have an email in to my former supervisor, who is now retired but stayed there, to find out if it is with my old shop or over in the Special Operations Group. Either way it will a significant jump in pay that is for sure. My W-2 says I made just under 30k this previous tax year but I am still living pay check to pay check. I am sick of it plus I loved the UK the first time around while I was a member. So this time should be twice as good since I do not have to play in exercises, I hope. Either way it is a win win situation.

Only ? I have for you is 'What is it going to cost you to live over there'? It is not cheap in the UK as you should know.

Nothing to find near you then you have to go look for it. Maybe go back into the service?

Cost of living over there is relatively high given the exchange rate, $1.54 to 1 pound. The company provides everything as in COLA, housing allowance and so on. If I do not get this job I am going to apply for my commission when I get my BS.

You going to bring your Ranger with you?

You better believe it. I am also taking my CBR with me. I am looking forward to it if I get the job.

nice man, it shouldn't be too bad. I'm goin to lakenheath after korea and my uncle works at mildenhall after he got out. There are enough things to do in europe that it will distract you for when you are pissed at the job. It sounds like you will be coordinating with contractors for the base. and the upgraded security clearance would be for if you need to go on the flightline for maintenance stuff. but maybe i'm wrong. and please dont suck like the rest of the civilians i work with man.

Send us some pics of your Ranger on the Autobahn. Heck, send us some pics of the Euro Rangers as well!

Waaay off topic. I was in Deutschland a few years ago on the Autobahn. I was with a guy who was driving a 5x series BMW station wagon - don't laugh - we were doing 200+ kph. (those direct injection diesels are BAD). Anyway, a brand new GT Mustang came FLYING past us.

Pics please.

I am prior service so I know how you feel. Security clearance reason is wrong by the way. I had flight line access with a secret clearance while I was in. A TS/SCI is used for the big dawgs in a big pond which is where I am going to be playing. :yahoo::icon_hornsup: I have already started looking for potential homes over there already.

trust me... the DoD civilians on Army posts are worse. I hate them.

Well, at least you can drive on the wrong side of the road over there...lol

Hey, you can buy a 4 door Ranger over there......

England is the shiz. I miss it. Mildenhall/Lakenheath/Feltwell are the best bases i've been on. Rhein-Main and Lajes are a close second.
