drop the y pipe off the headers? Is there room to heat the bolts/studs? :annoyed:

If you are leaving exhaust manifolds on the engine then yes just remove "Y" pipe nuts or torque them enough to break them off and replace them once engine is out.

Heating them in place can damage wiring before you even notice it, so not advisable.

If you can just heat the nut and stud quickly and then put/touch a candle/wax stick to the back side the wax will be pulled into the threads and can loosen them, then try removing.

Thanks Ron! oh, I answered your older post about home heating :)

Thanks for the response in the other thread :)

And just a heads up about exhaust systems, they rust up, nuts and bolts seize and are a PITA to get out for most DIYers.
You can spend hours on 1 nut or bolt and $$ on drill bits and eze-outs, lol.

I will often take a running vehicle to local muffler shop and tell them I will be doing some work on the engine and what exhaust parts I will need to remove.
Most I have been charged is $60, least was $20, cash :)
They remove all the nuts and bolts, replace any that break, and put them back on "snug" not super tight.

Takes them about an hour at the longest, they have all the tools and know how and replacement parts(nuts and bolts)

yes familiar with the routine. there was a time when brass nuts were used but that may have been when Henry ford was alive LOL

I buy brass nuts at the hardware store for any exhaust stud replacement I'm planning to do.
