is it in my best interest to remove the header panel to put the motor in and also will it fit with leaving the header panel in most pictures i have noticed every ones header panel is removed ? Also 91 ranger crossmember can i utlize my crossmember and drill new holes for the mounting or any tips thanks./ question about speedometer cable is there adapter for the detent cable to convert to c6 is it still possible to use my stock speedometer thanks for your replies been a great help. matt

Header panel ? As for the speedo cable, that'll stick right into a C-6 or any other Ford transmission, they all used the same speedo cable ends.

If your talking about the core support then yes it'll fit without removing it. I just thought it was easier to remove it first.

yes, remove the header panel and the front bumper. it will allow you to stand alot closer to the truck. and when your doing a engine swap and leaning over in the engine bay for extended amouts of time. it is alot easier on the back.

What's a "header panel"?

That is the thing that bolts to the radiator support that the grill and headlights attach too./QUOTE]

If you don't take the radiator core support out there is no reason to remove the header panel.IMO

It is more commonly refered to as the radiator core support, and "no" it does not have to be removed. It does make it simpler, though. The main reason I removed mine was to throw the rusty thing in the trash. I replaced it. The L-side body mount at the support was almost obliterated by rust. You'll need a spot-weld cutter to simplify removal.
