i just did ball joints on one side a week ago, decided to skip on the other side for the time being. did a clutch over the weekend cause the throw-out bearing was squeakin, and now went to test drive today and the fuel pump is gushing everywhere. dont know where the leak is coming from but its not the lines on either end. now i need to do a fuel pump before i can do anything else, and it still needs an alignment that i hoped to have done a couple days ago. wish i had more f'in money

Thats always the way, once you think you got everything fixed something else goes. How long did it take you to fix the throw-out? I gotta do mine soon(like yesterday). What else did you do, new slave? Like you said, wish I had more $$$$.

thats what our local trucking school is saying. we do all the maintenance on there crap and we just got done on a 1980s pete dumper and i bet the bill will be well over $5000 for almost a months worth of work, and they just burned up the clutch in it yesterday.

did the entire clutch along with a rear main seal and it basically took me all weekend. im sure theres guys around here that can do it in 6 hrs or so but this was my first clutch. if i had the extra cash i would have done a slave, but i have no reason to suspect it will fail anytime soon. i hope to swap in a mazda 5speed and a 4.0 clutch before theres a chance for anything to go wrong.

Still making payments. And steadily accumulating body damage from moron neighbors and idiots who can't park.

There is no end.

Thats what you get for having an older truck, but its still cheaper than a car payment.

damn straight, buddy! and thats exactly what i tell everybody when they give me shit about truck problems or needing to buy something new. one guy i work with is paying over $400 a month on his '07 F150, plus full coverage insurance. guess he's afraid to do his own work on an older truck

yup, my 88 isn't the prettiest, but it runs great (most the time) and I have fun getting from A to B.... why throw away money on a newer truck when mine serves its purpose just fine? Im not into all that 'status symbol' crap.

That's right, luggage man. My last Beater (that was the name I put on the side of it) was a '79 Courier with a 2.3 in it. A R.R. cam and a Weber carb made it fun to drive. I payed $300 for it and drove it for 8 years. Spent maybe $1k for parts. Sold it for $400. It lasted 3 months (I told him he had to check the oil and water often).
It takes a certain frame of mind to successfully drive a beater. If you aren't willing to raise the hood and check everything frequently it ain't gonna last very long. I bought new once. Didn't like it. Too much pressure to maitain it in 'like new' condition.

i had a 78, with the 1.8 and a weber those are fun trucks. don't get me wrong, I like newer trucks but i can't justify paying 20k for something that will beworth 16k as soon as i drive it off the lot.

Sometimes, time is money. I used to have the same opinion when I used to drive my "83 Ranger. I bought my "00 ranger and had to put more time and money into that than any other vehicle I've ever owned bar none. I sold that P.O.S. and purchased another new truck and I haven't looked back. It's nice now that if I'm working on a truck it's my off road truck and it's for fun. I don't have to try to get something running so I can get to work the next day.

20K, were are you buying a truck, 1983? You can't get a used truck for 20K.
